Tech 8 students race CO2 dragsters

Usually students are discouraged from racing down the hallways, but Tech 8 students were required to last week.
The racing involved small wooden vehicles and was the culmination of the C02 dragsters project in the Research and Development Unit. In the unit, classes explore the design process used in manufacturing. The students work through a design brief to design, develop, construct and test a scale model dragster that has to meet given specifications. Students use metric measurements for this project and use various sketching methods and technical drawings.
Race day not only tested their designs, but also their reaction time as students worked off a countdown to launch their cars. Amelia Acosta was the winner of the double elimination bracket race.
"The students really enjoyed this entire project and race day is so much fun for them," teacher Mr. Dave Hubert said.
